ITALIAN NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (CNR)

CNR asina project coordinator

CNR is the largest public research organization in Italy. Founded 90 years ago, CNR employs nowadays more than 10.000 people, mostly researchers and technicians, in 108 institutes, and 7 multidisciplinary national departments, with an annual budget of approximately 1 billion euro, from both public and private funding. CNR participates in the ASINA project as a cluster of three institutes, the Institute of Science and Technology for Ceramics (ISTEC), the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC) and the Institute of Intelligent Industrial Systems and Technologies for Advanced
Manufacturing (STIIMA).

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

CNR-ISTEC will coordinate the project and will be involved as WP1 leader on PCHEM characterization of NMs and on the development of material and process safety by design solutions. Moreover, it will work on WP2 on the PCHEM characterization factors that may affect performance, exposure and hazard potential and finally on WP5, implementing SbD solutions through the pilot lines and generating ASINA roadmaps.

CNR-ISSMC-logo

CNR-ISSMC is an interdisciplinary research institute specifically addressed to the study of ceramic materials and in particular of advanced ceramics. CNR-ISSMC has strong international collaborations within Europe, USA and Japan, and at the present is involved in many international programs, leading several 7th Framework and H2020 projects, in the area of biomaterials and nanosafety.

CNR-ISAC aims at an integrated scientific understanding of the atmosphere, the ocean and their processes, by means of a multidisciplinary approach which combines scientific and technological skills in meteorology, climate, atmospheric dynamics and composition, Earth observations; it develops basic research, theoretical, experimental and numerical, and modelling work together with impact evaluation. In this frame the “Impacts on Environment, Cultural Heritage and Human Health (IMPEACH)” research area deals with nanoparticles monitoring, in indoor/outdoor environments, and nanoparticles removal by air filtration. The aerosol laboratory is equipped with several monitors from the nanometric size up to micrometer particle diameters and devices for filter testing. CNR-ISAC is recognised internationally through its collaboration with a large number of European laboratories, and research centers worldwide.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT:

CNR-ISAC will be involved in the WP2 for the identification and monitoring hot-spots of NPs release and WP3 for real time and/or on-line monitoring of the processes.

CNR STIIMA logo

CNR-STIIMA Biella is an internationally recognized centre of fibres and textile science. Its activities deal with research and innovation in polymeric materials and related textile processes, development of textile norms and standards and technological transfers to textile enterprises. It has also expertise modification of surface properties of textiles, new spinning systems for filter media production, wear and fastness properties of textiles. Moreover, STIIMA has an equipped biology laboratory for antibacterial properties evaluation. CNR-STIIMA will mainly be involved in ASINA project for the evaluation of the antimicrobial efficacy tests and stability to use of NPs-coated products.
